About Shabbyswank

I rarely see anything that I don't want to embellish. Having started as a decorative painter in 1994, I soon developed a passion for re-designing, re-purposing and re-defining vintage furniture and accessories. Little did I know that someone else had already coined the phrase "Shabby Chic" and created a design empire around it...I was just taking ugly old castoffs and making them pretty again.
Working out of my home studio in Ontario, Canada, I have established a popular line of vanities, mirrors and other accessories in the Shabby Chic style as well as a line of retro kitchen ware and one of vintage Paris artwork.

Time for Change

I'm considering changing the style of my blog. Rather than documenting the progress of various projects, I'd like to create a straight retail site.
I simply don't have the time to devote to blog-land.
So, as soon as I figure out how to do it, I will start listing pieces that are available for sale with just descriptions and pricing.

The Next Project

Upon completion of the table, I decided to work on something from my reserve pile. "Oh yes!!" said I. That pressback rocker will look wonderful painted! And as I pulled it out from the corner and hoisted it onto the workbench....there it was.....a broken leg. So the challange, as usual, is greater than originally thought but I move on un-daunted. Stay tuned.

Okay, it's done !!!!!

So the table is finished and it actually looks great. I decided to re-paint the base in black... that was just what it needed.
Now I must mention....that I have absolutely no space in my home to use as a nice background for pictures. I have looked, and moved things around, and looked again, to no avail. So the crappy workshop background is as good as it gets for now. I'll keep looking.

The Table That Will be the Death of Me.

As previously stated, this is my 3rd attempt to finish the table in a way that pleases me. It is finished.....and it pleases me greatly....but, when lifting it down off my work bench, I loosened one of the legs. As soon as Roger repairs it....and takes a pic (poor overworked Rog.....as if) it will be posted in it's resplendant glory.

The Table Progresseth

Finally, a weekend off.....well sorta. Got called in on Sat, so Sunday was my only day to play. It's time to finish the round table that was shown in my last post.
The first challenge.....masking a perfect circle. A lampshade comes in handy here, and sign painter's tape is the best masking tool I've found.
After painting the outer circle black, the next challenge was what to do with the border. A quick perusal of my "stuff", and there they were! Clear stamps of various flourishes. Sure you're supposed to stick them onto an acrylic block, but $20 per block seems a bit silly when they work perfectly well on the bottom of a glass dish.
So here is the newly flourished top....the finished product soon to follow.
